So I noticed this scratch on the glass. I work with glass, so I have all the tools to remove it, just wondering if it would cause more damage to the tank.... it's a DEEP scratch, clearly done with a tool, not just casual abrasion... I watched my security camera footage and didn't see anyone do it, but who knows....

I've read the few posts I've found about repairing scratched acrylic tanks, and a couple on glass.... but didn't hear back about the end result.

My thought is to use a 220 grit diamond pad, then a 600, 1200, maybe a 2200, then cerium..... but the end result will be a thinning of the glass plate by about 8 or 10 mil (mil = 1/1000")

... not too worried about the structural problem, more so the optical issue.

    Anyone done this?

the scratch is about 3x4" in an upside down L (or a T, minus the left arm of the cross, if L's somehow offend you)

    -Doug

p.s. pic is in night-shot mode, I only saw the scratch when looking through pictures.

Man that is nasty. Sorry no help on this. I do see why you want to try and repair it though. Sorry for your bad luck!

As a matter of fact, L's do offend me! The only issue that comes to mind is the finished product ending with a slight warp/distortion affect.

I'd rather look at a little warping than a big nasty scratch!

this may happen. obviously the less you can take off the less the effect will be. i would try it. i dont work with glass, but if you say it can be done i would go for it. maybe try it out on another piece of glass. (not the tank) and see what the results would be. i couldnt have that on my tank.

Slight Warping is a lot less noticable....go for it.
