So, I have a few ick spots n my blue tang.
Been treating the water for about 2 weeks and no real change, everyone else appears clean.

I have a brand new saltwater swimming pool saltwater sand filter that pushes 5000 gallons a hour, do you think running this filter and stirring up the tank a little might filter out the ick in the water and the ick in the sand ?

It I ran the filter for 10 hours that would in theory pass 50 thousand gallons through the filter, my syste, is only 480 gallons total.

    Suggestions ?

I may be wrong, but I believe ich can only exist on a host body. I am also not certain sand filtration will filter out microorganisms.

Highly doubt you will accomplish anything except a minicycle or worse.
Ich has a free swimming stage but removing Ich in this manner would be next to impossible.

Vinny, so, running a sand filter thought the water column wouldn't achieve anything ? How sure are you ? I saw a post saying I will start a mini cycle ? I don't see how I would start a mini cycle ?
Sandy filter are hugely except able in othe areas due to their membrane efficiency

Always assume the possibility of starting a cycle and/or crashing your tank by "stirring it up a bit". I've seen it happen to too many systems when the aquarist decided to increase flow in an established tank or when a powerhead fell and altered the current.

Also, as Vinny stated, you cannot get rid if ich with filtration. Most fish carry dormant ich parasites in their gills. Providing a stress-free environment and a healthy, varied diet is the best way to prevent an outbreak. Once an outbreak occurs, the fish will need to be treated in a QT/HT and the DT will need to be fish-free for 6 to 8 weeks.

+1 on the diet and stress free environment. ich is not a problem as long as the fishes basic requirements are met. also worth saying is that blue tangs, i think not only because of their color contrast but this species seems particularly prone to ich.

when i added my baby yellow belly blue in a matter of a couple days he was covered with white spots. after a bout a week, once he found his space and started eating the fish food i make the spots vanished and have not come back since.

as mentioned if you want to remove ich from the tank there is no magic way around. your DT tank needs to go fishless for a 8weeks and by so doing you will starve/ break the parasites reproductive cycle.

from then on youll have to QT everything however if you dont want ich to infect your system again.

keep in mind (and if i am correct) that even though ich is a fish parasite it can come with crustaceans and other animals as well, dont take my word for this though but if i recall correctly i read this somewhere.

with all this being said I have ich in my DT and im absolutely not bothered by it, my fish are fat and healthy and can naturally fight off the parasite on their own.

Note: this is my own opinion based on experience of my "hardyish" livestock

Yes. If your goal is too remove Ich. It will accomplish little/nothing.Mr. B already stated the hazards of doing what you are suggesting.
