I want to add like an inch of sand to my tank that is up and running but it only has GSP and xenia 15 pounds or 20 lbs of LR and 2 clowns in it..its a 14g...i still have about 5-10 pounds left in the bag from when i filled it up on Saturday..but no spike has happend yet....Its been about 6 days....So can i add an inch of sand no trouble? or could that be a problem

No problem, just put some in a bowl, carefully lower the bowl into the water and to the sand then very carefully dump it out to keep the sand storm to a minimum.

i also found using a beer stein worked really well. less surface area for the water to disrupt the sand when adding

Add the sand to different areas of your sandbed slowly. You don't want to suffocate what is already living in your sandbed. So add some to the left... wait a couple... add some to the front... wait a couple... add some to the right.... wait a couple. :) That's what I would do.

But wait... was this entire tank just set up Saturday? Like, it's a brand new tank?

No problem, since your tank is still new and is still cycling you wont have to worry about covering up any mature sand. What I do is use a PVC pipe with a makeshift 2 litter soda bottle cut in half as a funnel at the top. Pour the sand down the pipe right where you want it in the tank. This way it keeps the sand from clouding up your water.
