I have a 5 gal tank with a bio pad filter. Is it possible to make this tank into a salt quarantine tank, or would that type of filter pad not work? What if I used live sand and a few tiny pieces of live rock also? If this wont work what other small tank set up would be practical. Also, if this will work, what should i keep in there to keep all the healthy bacteria alive...a type of fish or would a crustacean work? Thanks for the help.

You shouldnt have sand or LR in a QT tank. due to the fact that you may have to dose medications.just put a couple of pieces of PVC for the fish to hide in

hang on tank filter will work. I am setting one up witht the bio-wheel from marineland. when you don't have fish in it, you can put a pinch of regular dry fish food to keep the bacteria alive.
