Which is more important for a reef tank, a good quality salt or suppliment?

That would depend on the animals kept. I would say that both being high quality is best, but salt would be my vote of one over the other since you will most likely use more salt than supplements.

if you do WC to replenish then salt. if you skimp on WC and depend on supliments then, well, its suppliments. Both being top notch is the best tho...

agreed with both posts. I use my salt mix to maintain my mag level in the 1400's so having a salt that does that is vital.

It depends. For a tank without many LPS or SPS corals, then salt. However, others, such as my tank for example have a fair amount of hard corals and would likely crash within a few days without constantly adding ca and alk supplements. So, in my case, both are equally important. In other tanks, supplements aren't important at all.

Before you need suppliments you must have a quality salt. You can't maintain sg with suppliments. DA ;)

You can get a "standard" quality salt and add supplements to it to get "high" quality.

I haven't done a price comparison, but I know of one coral propagator who does supplement addition and gets great results. They save money going this method.
