    How do I know if I have too much salt in my aquarium or not enough?

    use a hydrometer or refractometer. specific gravity of 1.020-1.025 is best. for inverts I recommend 1.023-1.026 (1.026 usually for corals)

    yes yous a refractometer.. use about 2.5 cups of salt per 5 gallons to get to 1.026

    do you own a hydrometer or refractometer. they are the most basic tools that are a must in this hobby

    No I don't have one. I just buy the salt water from the fish store so I didnt know I needed one

    :eek: NO NO NO NO!!! You know you need to do water changes AT LEAST every 2 weeks, right? You need to check the salinity of your tank, compare it with the saltwater you have, and either raise or lower the salinity depending on how high or low it is.

    O ok. I just change the water and that was it... OOOPPPSSS. Whats the difference between a refractometer and a hydrometer?
