I'm sure mine will outgrow my tank in no time and then I'll return it to the store I bought it from and trade for some coral or something else depending on what's available. My Crocea however is staying with me til the end ;) !

I hate to rain on your parade but I think your's is too low in the tank. There really shouldn't be brown in the mantle. The brown is symbiotic algae...the clam trying to adapt to the lower light situation. It's protective pigmentation and the clam is opened well to take on as much light as possible, not because of good health. These are factual notes taken from Daniel Knop's Giant clams. Good reading :) .

its gold..and i have over 350 w of lights over my tank with 700+ par at the bottom of my tank..that is just the pattern of the crocea, supposedly they are more expensive with the gold colors..heres another one i want..
    Crocea Clam (Tridacna crocea) 2"

these are under leds, about 5" from the lights at my friends house, that sells corals..this is where i got mine from..his camera fades out the colors more, but this one is super gold..

I've purchased quite a bit from corals2go before! That's a buddy of your's?....Lucky! Got an awesome elegance from there too!

Mine had more of the bluish/neon coloration when I introduced it. After three weeks it's been developing some of the brownish coloration you call "gold". It's currently about 13" away from my LED canopy. I'm working on adding some more light to it's area(since it's attached and I like where it is) in the next few days.

I don't believe that coloration is supposed to be at all, from what I've read, in a completely healthy specimen. It's also not always JUST lack of light but lack of a certain spectrum as well that the clam may have been used to. I'm no expert by any means. Just trying to share what I've learned. I guess time will tell.

In the meantime, continue to update pics of your sweet tank so we don't get too far off track ;)

yeah man jimmy is a good friend, i just got that torch a couple days ago, and hes got me some acans waiting to be picked up monday or tuesday..he has good deals and free shipping to some surrounding louisiana states..he also does everything he can to make a perfect transaction with customers, and he has a good selection..

also to your brown color, i posted a question about the coloration of my clam and everyone said it was perfect..it is a shiny gold color..my crocea is directly under a 250halide and t5s..what kind of leds are you running..jimmys clams are under leds and he is about to go all led..the gold color is the whole reason i bought that specific clam..

"The T. crocea clam is one of the most attractive clams and is easily confused with T. maxima. Color can be a combination of blue, purple, yellow, green, brown, gold or orange in various patterns. The mantle usually has numerous iridescent blue, yellow or green blotches or lines. T. crocea has a very large abyssal gland (larger than T. maxima). This gland is used to anchor the clam in the strong water currents they inhabit. The shell is thicker than other clams, relatively small folds on the side of the shell and small scutes usually on the upper portions of the shell only. Incurrent siphon has very fine tentacles. T. crocea is the smallest of the 'giant' clams and reaches a maximum length of 6-9"."

maybe this will help, its what jimmy has as their descriptions and im pretty sure he got it off live aquaria..maybe the brown your clam is getting is a little different..post a pic
