So I have had my tank for about a year and a half. It has been running great with no problems others seem to have. I just finished my build with a new Apex and another MP40 and got plenty of coral.

Well now I need to pull the plug. We went over our finances, and we are not circling the drain, but we want to get another house in a couple of years. We need to get our stuff in order and we will need to start paying off student loans next year. The tank stands in the way of all that and we are unwilling to cut other stuff out.

I'm pretty bummed. I finally got it to where I wanted and was looking forward to watching it grow out. But I need to get my priorities straight and I have always known this was a luxury that was subject to the chopping block. I have really enjoied this site and all that came with it to this point. Just needed to put it out there to help pull the trigger.

Sorry to hear about this, but I completely understand the need to separate luxuries from needs and this is not a cheap hobby. Good luck!

Sorry to hear this! Hopefully in a few years when your finances become more stable you can start back up. You already have all the knowledge!

man, thats terrible! Is the normal monthly running cost of the tank the major factor? I know with my 55's its not bad monthly wise if I dont buy any new corals/fish.. just basic stuff like electricity,water,salt,food..etc .. I hope you can at least downsize to a biocube or something.. you already have everything except the tank. good luck.

I'm sorry to hear this. That's too bad.:( But yes this hobby is a luxury to have and finances are more important.

Hopefully/maybe you can keep a small tank(like others have said) like a 20g or a 29g. I hope to see you on the forum occasionally too.

That sucks man, sorry to hear. I went through something similar around 6 months ago and downsized to a nano from my 125. Now I am getting back into the swing of things with a newly setup 90 reef and a 180 fowlr on the (distant) horizon. Is there any way you could just setup for a frag / prop grow out setup and use your current corals to generate enough revenu to justify the monthly expenses?
