So I have a filter that I am planning on running occasionally for carbon. I also want to use it for some filtration on a QT. Will it start a cycle in my main tank if i put it on now?

I wouldn't think it would but just want to be sure.

If the filter is new and never used then no it won't start a mini cycle. IME you should ditch the carbon an run purigen. You'll save $$$.

No problem! Purigen is like an alternative to carbon and you only have to replace it every few months. There's another one called chemi pure elite, it removes nitrates and phosphates and clears up the water. Quality carbon isn't useless I just prefer theses:)

you shouldn't get any kind of a cycle as long as there was nothing sitting and dieing inside the canister if it was used in the past. so ure good
