I have been looking around at RODI units. I realize I do not want to go cheap because it will cost me more in the long run. But I still want something at a reasonable cost with high quality. I found this. Amazon.com: Compact III 5 Stage: Kitchen & Dining

It would save me about $50 or so over the spectrapure system I was looking at and this one comes with a TDS meter. Can anyone weigh in on this and tell me if they think this will be a good system? Thanks

That should be a decent unit. The company selling it is good to deal with.

I like the fact it comes with the TDS and that they have lifetime support of their products.

i personally like the SpectraPure brand. I bought this one and it was the best thing i ever bought for my reef tank! Very, very easy to install and good quality. I bought the 25 GPD and it is the perfect amount for my 70 gal reef! Not too slow and not too fast! :)

I have looked at those units at petstore.com. I actually was not sure I wanted that unit just for the fact that for $19 more I get a flush valve, TDS meter, and auto top off with the system I posted above.

Saltwaterguy....I have heard they make great quality stuff. The unit on petstore.com does not have a tds, auto top off, automatic shut off, or a flush valve. Do you feel that the quality of spectrapure is so great that it out weighs the value of these 4 products? This company offers a lifetime warranty with unlimited customer service as well. That is a big selling point for me.

Well, why are you asking us? It's your unit and it all comes down to personal preferences. It kinda looks like you've made up your mind. They are all nice units and can make pretty much the same thing so its all what you like the best.

Take a look at the CSP-DI for $199. It does come with a dual inline TDS meter, inline pressure gauge, much better quality 0.5 micron absolute rated prefilter, 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon chlorine guzzler type carbon block, 90 gpd batch tested high rejection rate RO membrane, a real full size 20 oz vertical refillable DI with reef specific SilicaBuster DI resin usually blended and packed the day the unit is built to order, a capillary tube flow restrictor and more. Its a much better unit for just a little more $$. If you had bought it two months ago the sale price at that time was $145 which is $100 off the normal retail of $249. At $199 its still a better value and will save you money in operating costs over time. You will make up the difference in DI savings in the first 6 months almost guaranteed.

I once owned a AWI Typhoon III, their top of the line, and sold it to buy a Spectrapure MaxCap and my DI life went from 150 gallons to over 1000 gallons per refill, quite a savings. AWI has really been taking some heat lately since Walter no longer runs the company, check out the complaints on some of the other large reef forums.
