I took the plunge and just ordered a Spectrapure. The cost isn't actually too bad when you figure in the quality and the build in TDS meters that you'd have to pay extra for with most other brands.

Now I'll have to order a bunch of stuff from bulkreefsupply to make it worth my while to make the trip to my PO box in Niagara Falls, NY. LOL

The water alarm shuts the unit down completely. the unit has an auto flush system on it. Are you saying it flushes with non DI water?

Just wanting to understand them a little better!

    Thanks AZdesertRat

Looks like Toronto guy already bought a SpectraPure but I am still curious about these

The water alarm may shut the pump off but you are still connected to a pressurized tap water supply.
Yes it uses plain old tap water to flush the unit. I have seen people use a timer and a solenoid valve to do the same thing much cheaper but it still is not sufficient to make a membrane last at 1:1 or 1:1.5 like they claim. I would love to see their lab data if they have any. Its been tried for 25+ years by other who have been in the industry that long and it just does not work for long. If it were that simple Spectrapure, AWI. ARS, PurelyH2o, Watts and many others would have had it out years ago. They were all around in the infancy of RO for household use and test things like this on a continous basis. I have visited both Watts Premier and Spectrapure since they are both in the Phoenox area and they have test benches going continously with thousands of hours on components to test them. Why sell a UHE for $800 if the other would work and last at $200? Its because they proved it does not work years ago and moved on. Companies don't stay in business for 25 years selling questionable products.

Yes I agree about the Spectrapure being the best and tested and proven.
Maybe i will have them in the store someday. They were backlogged a month when I was trying to buy. I didn't have that long....Kinda sucks.

There is a new LFS opening up in Tempe AZ in the next month or so and the owner gave me a behind the scenes tour of the facility. I was amazed at the systems Spectrapure built for them, several ultra low waste 400+ GPD systems plus a boat load of RO/DI storage with pumps to send it all over the store. All the display tanks except the large deep one will have LED lighting and much more, really state of the art stuff.

same here with the lighting 90% LED's ... need a few halides and t-5's to show the difference. I will be calling spectrapure after a year or so. Its real difficult in my situation since I live in Arvada Co.... Spectrapure told me from the water reports that I am so close to ro water out of the tap its ridiculous. They could design a low waste system for pretty cheap. They were just super backlogged when I needed to get mine.:-/

I Run the Vertex unit and I've had the kent and the Aquasafe and the Vertex is by far the best unit I've owned. I've heard nothing but good things from others on this and other sites.

With the booster pump, built in auto shut off, Built in TDS, and auto flush it has been nothing but a perfect unit for me

In Vancouver you also have very low TDS to begin with. Its not the same in normal TDS waters of 250 or higher.
