Big night for the build! Pics below explain it all...

WorldWide Corals ships my rock (and Bubble King) to me - 485 lbs? Really? Sheesh I went a little overboard when I bought that stuff :)

Shipment arrives at Oakland Airport (7 of the 13 boxes) at 11:15 pm. Thanks to my new friend Tighe who helped me move this stuff at midnight!

My 125g fuge and extra 40g BARELY fits all the rock.

    The aftermath.

Oh my! How is your wife handling this? :)
You are right about kelvin - 2700 is a wee bit low there. Easy fix though..

I'm actually quite surprised... she has been doing quite well with it. Of course the filter room is in the bottom of the house and she never sees it so out of sight, out of mind :)

So do you have, like two basements?

The house is on a hill and the fish room is the bottom part of the down-slope fill. The only way to access it is from outside of the house. The crude image below shows the basic layout. The basement/filter room isn't accessible from inside the house.

That's for the drawing. That's pretty cool. If you really wanted to could you build stairs to go from "in-hill" level 1 to level two, or would that be too much work with what I am assuming is probably a slab floor?

It's not slab and this could be done. It was actually designed with that in mind. However, if we did that then we'd have a room on the bottom level and not a filter room on the bottom level. Can't let that happen :)

:D That works. Keeps the wife away from knowing what's being done as well! hahaha

Glad to hear the basement is working out. :)

    Hey about this...

Just thinking out loud... insulation for the pipes? (or can I not see it? I do see pipe clamps... hmm..)
