What is tds of ocean water? it sounds like I shouldn't even drink my ro water at this pace, lol. So new membrane, its 5 stage, replace other filters, add a di unit clean out pressure tank, see what I get, how does that sound to you guys? Later....

Once you mix your saltwater after it's filtered at 0 TDS, it goes back up to a fairly large number.

The TDS of natural ocean water is in the thousands; like 35000. Most of which is salt.

Don't forget, TDS is just a measure of CONDUCTIVITY, not anything specific.

i think most people miss the point when it comes to adding things to the tank. IMO everything comes down to control. you need to know EXACTLY what you are adding even if its something seemingly harmless like water. you don't know what those 750ppm of tds are in you tap water, could be anything good or bad. why take a chance? if something goes wrong you need to be completely confident in explaining what changed. same goes with when you do things right. i really want to know what you did so i can emulate and produce the same improved results. this is science! we use stats, percentages, formulas and chemicals. we are trying to recreate the ocean, something that is poorly studied in the first place, and very many lives live are depending on us to take care of them. these fish and coral we keep are our dependants, our children. they deserve the best we can provide them. please keep this in mind at all time.

Understanding the need to know what's in your water with the above quote, do you think that would get me to 0 tds, I believe that was where I was headed with this thread, Later....

I would get rid of the pressure tank, or T it off before it gets to the tank so you can bypass it for tank water. I would flush the membrane, and see if the TDS goes down, which it should. Then I would get new DI resin. You likely don't need a new RO membrane.

Didn't I say that in post #10? Pressure tanks are bad news for RO/DI systems due to TDS creep.

Yes you did Mr.AzdesertRat, you went on a mighty rift on the subject, my inexperience in this hobby is why I'm here. I have appreciated a lot of peoples ideas and suggestions, I've also learned that if you give somebody a soap box they will get on it at times, again everyone's help is appreciated.

The tendency is to discuss the issue thoroughly in the attempt to help someone understand the reasoning behind "do it this way", rather than have someone blindly follow advice which they may or may not understand.
