I'm wondering how many people use the "easier" self-piercing saddle valve vs. Installing the 1/4 turn shut off valve inline with the pipe. Just trying to decide which way I want to go.

Saddle valve, although I did add a ball valve in my input line and turn the flow on and off that way leaving the saddle valve always open.Have had no leaks or problems.

For years the self piercing saddle valves were all we had and they work fine as long as you exercise them once in awhile to keep the small hole open and reseat the packing in the stem. I have had one on my cold water line for over 15 years now and its never been a problem.

I use the garden hose adapter and a brass hose wye on the cold water line to my washing machine for my reef RO/DI system in the garage and the self piercing valve on my drinking water system in the kitchen.
