    Hi,
On Friday my DI resin was delivered from BulkReefSupply. I put it into the reusable 10x2 cartridge (brand new cartridge) according to instructions and placed it into the canister (brand new canister, rinsed with RO water). However, as I was packing it into the cartridge I noticed a chemical smell coming from inside the bag with the resin and thought nothing of it. After installing it, the water coming out of the RO/DI unit had that same chemical smell coming out of it.
Today is Sunday, and the water that's coming out of my RO/DI unit still has that smell. Is that normal? The resin was brand new, vacuum sealed and everything. If I had to describe the smell in detail, it smells like the inside of a factory, or an auto repair shop. It has an oily, gasoline-y type of smell.

Also, the RO unit didn't have that smell present until I installed the DI cartridge on Friday.

didn't you flush about 5 gallons through the resin first?

Of course. I flushed 15 gallons through it and the smell still persists. The RO/DI unit was thoroughly disinfected and new filters were installed a few days before the DI was added as well.
I put samples of the water into various containers to do the smell test too (just in case it was the container that smelled), and all of them have the same odor.

The water tests as 0 ppm though, so the DI does its job. It just produces water with an odor.

    I'll try to do that.
New DI resin is supposed to have an odor when you first open it up though, right? This is my first time dealing with DI resin. I'm still trying to figure out what's 'normal' and what's not.
    Thanks for all the responses!
