That'll teach me to buy the cheaper version from e-bay. It worked good from January till 3 weeks ago. Started showing .003, .014 TDS, so change filters right? So I did, from the LFS, ($$$), worked again for a week. Now, it was showing .045 TDS. So change the paper filter out since they wanted 129.99 for a membrane! Now its showing .125!!
My tap water out of the faucet is .082. So, I made a call to Bulkreefsupply, and they were very helpful even though I didn't buy it from them. Basically, the unit is probably contaminated and would have to bleach it and replace all the filters again including the membrane.
So, in short, ordering a new unit from Bulkreefsupply tonight, and hopefully will be here by Friday sine I missed my water change this weekend and need top off water. Using the tap for top off right now.
Just needed to vent, anyone else using their units?

    I am considering this one:
5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Deionization System Bulk Reef Supply

I have their 5 stage plus unit and I love it!! 1 question about your RO problems . . . did you try a different TDS meter?

Sorry to hear, JBL. I bought the 5 Stage unit from Airwaterice.com. It was about $183 shipped. I'm sure after you get your new unit you'll be pleased.

Thanks Will, I did check the meter. My tap is still at .082, and Poland spring is still at .040
I was thinking about the plus unit with the meters built in. Is that the one you got?

Thanks much all. I am now torn between the two, but am liking the meters on the unit from BRS.

You may be fine with just buying quality sediment filters, carbon block, ro membrane, and a verticle DI. Call Russ at BuckeyeFieldSupply. I used a "used" RO setup, but bought all new filter elements, etc from him, and his stuff is excellent quality.

a ro di unit is only as good as it's filters other then that just plactic housings.

but I do have a question for you on the membrane did you let water flow through it to get the oils out of it?

i know when I changed mine out it said let it run for 15-30 mins depending on pressure to make sure the storage additives are removed?

This does not even make sense..RO/DI units dont break--there are no moving parts, just filter housings as stated above. The readings are strange on the TDS also. Mine reads in whole numbers in PPM. Usually here in my part of Tx. 265 in...000 out. All the system does is house the filters and membrane. I would change the filters as you did. Change the DI cartridge or resin. and check the membrane. Run it for an hour and re-test your TDS. Or check your TDS meter. Something is wierd in this scenario.

Your right. Which is why I can't see how its putting out more than my tap. There is no moving parts, and with new filters, it should be fine. I have put through it about 800 gallons total since new.

I changed all the filters execpt for the membrane, which i just checked and is all brown, so it needs to go too. I spent over 100 just on the filters at the LFS trying to fix this, and they want 120 for the membrane. I could have bought an entire system for what I've spent. Aside from a few fittings breaking also, I just need to toss it and buy a new one. I know I can get a membrane online for about 40, but I am done trying to fix this setup.

I also, after changing the filters, let it run for about 2 hours, and never got better.

Have you checked your TDS Meter?? WOW YOUR LFS IS INSANE EXPENSIVE ON FILTERS!!!!
I just replaced my sediment (1 micron) Carbon block, and refilled my DI resin for 32.00 at the LFS.
