My RO/DI is having problems. It went from a nice stream of water to a slow drip, now nothing comes out of the DI section. This happened within a week. There is still waste water out of the RO. I would say that flow is a little slower, but maybe not. It doesn't seem like the DI is even filling up. The DI is new, I'm not sure the age of the other portions, as I bought the unit used. The previous owner said that all it needed was a new DI. Any thoughts?

new membrane. Wait till others chime in, but I would bet new membrane. I would replace all the filters too. I never take people word for it. Too much money invested to hope someone is telling the truth!

In order for anyone to troubleshoot your system you need to provide several pieces of information, its all guesses or assumptions otherwise and you know what happens when someone assumes something.

What is your water pressure at the membrane? What is your water temperature? What is your tap water TDS? Your RO only TDS? Your RO/DI TDS? What is your waste ratio? Time and measure it. What membrane do you have? How old are the prefilter, carbon(s) and membrane?

I hate to see people buying used RO units unless they know and trust the person they are buying from. Used often ends up costing more than a new reef quality system would have been.

You really need to know all of the above but you can do a few very quick checks if you don't have a pressure gauge.
First remove the prefilter, screw the empty housing back on and run the system for NO more than a couple minutes to see if this improves anything. If so the prefilter is shot. Next remove the carbon filter and do the same thing but only for a minute or two since you are allowing chlorine to get to the membrane. Again if it improves the carbon is also shot.
Do you have chlorinated water and do you have a swimming pool chlorine test kit? If so once the filters are back in place try testing the RO water for the presence of chlorine, if you have any at all the membrane is shot due to carbon being left in too long and chlorine eating the membrane.

If you are in need of replacements you cannot find any better than here and they are having a huge sale so you will never get them cheaper either.

Most RO or RO/DI units are interchangable with a few exceptions like some Watts Premier, Whirlpool and Sears units among others. Most standard membranes are the 1812-xx configuration and most of those I mentioned use a 1810-xx membrane which is slightly different and wil not fit in a standard housing.
The vertical prefilters and carbons are normally a standard 10" size and are interchangable.
