One thing you'll want to make sure of is that it's either a well known brand OR it uses filters that also fit a well known brand. Nothing wrong with looking for a bargain as long as it does the job, but you don't want something that is one of a kind and then be unable to find filters for it a year down the road or whenever they need replaced.

It says that the filters are the standard ro size and are easily found in most local stores so thats a plus :)

    This seller is great!!
eBay Store - reverse osmosis: Water Purification Systems, aquarium, Replacement Filters

    Try this.
WaterGeneral RO DI 2OUTPUT REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER SYSTEM - eBay (item 350025630284 end time Feb-18-08 12:59:36 PST)

I purchased the above and called the actual seller, www.FilterDirect.com. He added a second DI unit for 15 bucks. So I have 7 stages. The drinking water is 30 ppm and the 2DI output is 0 ppm!! Do not buy anything unless you get a Tank too. Really too slow for direct output unless you have it attached to a ATO system. But... more work more pain... Just get one with a tank. Here is a few pics of my setup...

    I had a plumber install it :)

    Filter

I purchase everything you see, 7 stage, extra DI stage, extra DI solution, TDS meter for $207.00 shipping included. I called on Monday and had it on Friday.!!

Note: FilterDirect will match the price on ebay... there site is more money but they will honor ebay price. (buy it now)

You'll want a system with vertical DI stage(s). Horizontal DI is a design error, typically indicative of a retrofitted drinking water system.

We find people who live in apartments are understandably hesitant to make any changes to the plumbing. So assuming you don't have hose bibs /laundary facilities in your apartment, these fittings can be installed w/o permanant changes to the plumbing:

I posted before and gave a link to an eBay store and I guess I jumped the rope too early there.....The unit I bought has kicked the bucket after only 3 uses and roughly 45 gals. STAY AWAY FROM EBAY STORES. Bad bad service, awful comm., buy brand name.

The resin used by most eBay stores, as I realized a couple of days ago, is some cheap crap that will change color (deplete) after so many gallons being produced. I'm on the market now, yet AGAIN, for another unit. This time I'm buying either a Kent or Seachem, they are a lot more, but they are worth the money.

PLEASE PLEASE stay away from eBay. I've lost 150 bucks by buying that crappy unit.

I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS IMPORTANT DETAIL, I found the DI unit was crap after I tested the water with my TDS meter, as I always do, it was reading 024ppms, which is odd for DI that are supposed to be 000. After a closer examination in a clear glass against a white light, I saw what I thought at first were air bubbles, but to my surprise, they were tiny beads...very very small....if I hadn't checked the water, I could've put this in my aquarium with disastrous consequences. DO NOT BUY FROM cheapBay.
