i am sorry to hear of your loss and i expect the same when i return home from work tonight. I lost power last night at 8 pm due to a ice storm and the power company has no idea when it will be restored. So i am betting that i will have mass carnage on hand when i return home. :(.

Guess i will be having a trip to the local best buy for a UPS and the to the LFS to try to restock the tank after i fix any problems that may arise from long expsures to no circualtion and air being introduced to the water.

man sean, u must have got hit worse than we did in detroit, that really sucks alot, hope they are ok. oooohhhhh, on a good note, my jawfish came back to me....he buried himself in a rock like 4 days ago and havent seen him since, just the trigger pecking at the top of his rock,i thought he was dead for sure, but i figured id wait it out, well, 4 days later and he came out of hibernation to cheer me up!!! that makes me feel better, i was getting ready to tear down the tank today to look for him! glad i didnt.

Seriously! I hate the snow right now- downriver got hit with 10!!! But anyways, I didn't realize having the skimmer off could kill fish. I recently put some slime away in my tank and turned the skimmer off for 2 days. I guess I'm pretty lucky that I didnt lose anything. That really sucks... sorry for your loss

well, the skimmer didnt kill them, its that that was the air source for the water, i only have an undergravel with powerheads, so no bubbles, no air. and 10 inches, dam#, thats bad for you.

CRAP!...So sorry to hear about loss...

Something we all live in great fear of.

Running an airstone full time in either sump or tank is not bad idea for anyone for several reasons. Sure, skimmer "should" provide enough oxygenation...but what if it fails...:-/ --- recently saved my butt during a recent overtemp.

Battery powered emergency air pumps (kind that kick on when power quits) are also "cheap" insurance. May just give that extra margin of safety needed to save tank during power outage.

Lots of options out there...check 3Reef Sponsers...

I have one in both main and nano. Thinking of adding second to main.

    Again, very sorry.

    Best wishes.

    Scott
