I've had my current return pump for over a year now, i cant tell what brand of pump it is it came with the tank. Recently it's starting to make some horrible sounds, in the last 2 days its goin non stop. Ive taken apart the pump so many times washing out the parts making sure no sand or any junk is in there but its just become so loud. The tanks in my bedroom and i have been sleeping in our guest bedroom until i figure out what to do. The one year ive had my tank its never run dry.

Im on a slim budget but i've picked out the RIO 1400 Plus.
Aquarium Water Current: Rio Plus Aqua Water Pumps

It's a standard drilled tank and from what i read those over flows can handle up to 600 GPH so idk if i can get away with the next size up (1700 Plus @ 642 GPH) or if i should play it safe with the 420 GPH model (1400)?

Also can any one using a rio comment on how loud they are?

I had a Rio 2500 for a while on my 150 and was happy with the noise level.

I would go bigger than a 1700. 642gph doesn't consider plumping going up a few feet to your tank. It comes with a built in valve anyway so if it's too much just adjust it. I have a 1700 and can't hear it at all.
