I just ordered a brand spankin new BRS phosphate reactor, Maxijet 1200, and one pund of GFO pellets. My question is how much of the GFO should I use and how often should I replace it?

If PO4 is way out of wack, I'd use double the recommended amt. If it is lower than .50 then, just use the manufacturer's recommendation. You can replace every 2 weeks to 1 month.

I would say that your tank size is important information in making that determination.

BRS has a nifty calculator for that, just put in water volume.

Start with 1/2 the recommended amount or less in the beginning, otherwise you will bleach your corals quickly. Over 6 weeks or so and a couple changeouts slowly build up to the recommended amount, never add more than they recommend, that amount is there for a reason.

I'm gonna agree with the rat here. Nothing ever happens fast in a reef tank. Move slow. (People have accidentally killed corals with a product that I consider a good one if used properly).
