And Facebook groups are full of "experts", just like most all LFS...

(hint: one golden rule of aquaria is never blindly listen to an LFS)

You'll get the same or similar answers, generally.

There was once an experiment that used very experience butchers and the average joe to try and determine how much usable meat a certain cow would contain. It was comprised of a mixture of 50 people. They group average was within 6 pounds of the actual usable weight. So moral of the story take all the highs and the lows and shoot for the center and you will be fairly safe.

I'd be careful drawing that lesson from the experiment. The experiment tests peoples ability to do something that doesn't require special knowledge or experience. While I'm quite comfortable letting 50 random people order part of the economic world or make political decisions, I'd hate to have surgery done by them.

Understanding how many fish belong in a reef is something you have to have experience with to know. 50 random folks or 50 forum members are not necessarily going to give you a useful average.

That said, cool experiment and great life lesson.

You're also going to have variances because said list of fish might not all get along.. It took upwards of a year to get the group of fish I have living in harmony. Had to take some out and add others during the way. I'm close to what I wanted so I'll take it!

Yes with that being said I am only asking people that might actually have a clue to begin with. I figure if I can question a large number of "experts" the better range I can derive.

This is very true. I've come across numerous stories about some fish that were ideal fish and in other tanks they were unholy terrors. I think my biggest challenge will be the anthias. I know their requirements but, they are the most iffy fish that I will be adding. I might actually be better off adding fairy wrasse instead.

Yup I have a six line wrasse that is a model citizen, who woulda thunk it! I'm wanting to add five Fathead Anthias or Princess Anthias and am very skeptical of how they will do in my tank. I'm not rich either so that would be a big financial hit if something goes array in there.... I wish Chromis came in red or pink colors.

They are notorious for not liking new additions. SO be prepared to use a specimen box.
