Return Pump question

Okay well due to some changes i had to make, im no longer plumbing my tank to the basement so my 5500 gph return pump, well cant use it any more lol.

The sump will be in the middle of the stand, the tank is a 180 with two mega flow over flow kits.


My question is what return pump?

mag 7? mag 9? mag12? any other suggestions that wont rock the bank account!?

What skimmer are you using?
What other flow will be in the DT?

skimmer is a octo nw250, flow in the tank will be 2xk4 2xmj1200 with 2100mod and tunze 6045

 

I would go with a Mag12.

You skimmer has a throughput of 800GPH roughly. A Mag12 with a 6' head will get you 950GPH. Just about perfect.

You have plenty of other flow without having to rely on your return for movement.

 

Cool, mag 12 it is then!

 

I would do at least a mag 18.

 

there going to be maybe two feet of head....mag 18 would be alot of over kill IMO

Through wall same height? that would be cool.

 

Ocean Runner or Eheim, either an OR 3500 or 6500 or Eheim 1262. Better pumps than Mags.

If you like the Octopus skimmer, you might look at the Octopus return pumps too, they are identical to Ocean Runners but quite a bit less expensive.

 

I didn't know that head was going to be 2 feet. I must have missed that part. The mag 12 would be fine on a budget.
