I just got my sump set...after a year of putting it off. I have a continuous overflow box and I'm worried about it potentially loosing its suction and then my return pump flooding my main tank. I swear there is something that can be attached to the outside of the main tank, along the top edge, that will shut off the return pump if it comes in contact with water. Or am I just stupid and making things up. I looked through bulkreefsupply.com quickly and didn't see such a contraption and I'm not really sure what it would be called.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

They might have something similar to what you are describing but I'm not sure where you would find such a thing. Maybe AZdesertRat might know. You could PM him or rig something up with a float valve.

There are wet sensors that you can hook up to your controller. I have also heard about them to go under hot water heaters. Not sure if it could be made to work with a pump though.

Well damn, that link got my hopes up.

Looks like I might have to explore the float route. I just have a really small sump and not a ton of room to work with.

Scroll down to the bottom of the amazon page to see the details of it.

Hey thanks for the links. I was looking at some home security flood protection sensors but didn't see a way to make it work. The ultralife switch seems like it would work.

also you have your in its own chamber. So that if the overflow box suction stops. the pump will only pump out what is in the chamber. If you do the math right you can have it so the chamber is small enough not to over flow the DT. There are problems with this method: if the pump runs dry long enough its toast. And a small chamber for the pump alone could heat up from the pump and cause more evaporation in that chamber. And you also have to make sure that your daily evaporation isnt more then what the chamber holds... just an idea, this is what I did with my sump (but my overflow is also gravity fed)
