So, made a promise to my son about 6 months ago that if he accomplished some goals and did what he was told and saved money, he could get a chinchilla. I'm thinking not a chance in heck will he not move onto another critter and forget about chinchillas for one and for 2, no way will he do the following:
Earn $200 for the chinchilla and cage and I'd buy the rest
Keep 3 hermit crabs alive and happy for 6 months(seriously not 1 died)
    and help around the house!

Well, we just picked up a chinchilla. In a small home, with 2 elderly ladies with no teeth, few clothes, 30-40 dogs, countless cats, 30-60 birds and other critters. Cops/humane/social workers called, clothes laying in the driveway due to bugs/fleas, car getting sprayed and fumigated, and a vet friend bringing something over to clean the chinchilla up. I still feel dirty, but I'm a hero to my son, and he is ecstatic.

And this little girl is cool as heck, super nice and fun.

I'm going to take another shower, be back soon;)

It's not unusual for animal hoarders to sincerely believe they are rescuers. I truly believe that is a real mental disorder with sad consequences for all involved especially the animals, most of which stand a good chance of being euthanized.

This is why I am passionate about spaying and neutering all pets, then and only then will our society make a dent in this tragic scenario.

I work with rescue societies everyday, if you need a to feel like you're doing something of value with your life I recommend volunteering at one.

Thanks Ryan for stepping forward again.

Thx cheryl. I work with alot of dog rescues and its sad how many times i see this. Hopefully most these cats, dogs and birds get saved. Most of them seemed nice enough and in ok shape. Although, I guess they were breeding full grown dobermans with mini pinschers, and they said that the min pin's kept dying during birth. SAD.

Gonna head up to the humane society and help clean these new additions up. And TRY not to come home with one. If I get this Great Dane, I'll be FULLY STOCKED;)

Very cool Ryan! Thats great that you set out some goals for your son to accomplish. Not enough parents do that these days. So many kids are spoiled brats. Thats so sad to hear about the conditions that the chinchilla came from... But atleast the situation is being addressed and your son, as well as the chinchilla are happy.

Congrats Ryan and kudos to you on 2 fronts. One for rescuing a distressed animal and two for teaching your son the value of earning his own money and using it for a goal instead of providing him with it because he asked for it.

You are a good person, I love chinchillas too :)
Did you know they have the softest fur of any mammal?
