In a fit of inspired stupidity I decided to see if I could put a small back of carbon in the right (return) side of my Remora skimmer. Little did I know that the chamber extended well (ie a friggin' foot) below the return. So, that happened...
My question is (once I take apart the whole dang skimmer and shake the carbon bag out of the bowels of the thing) can I use that gianormous right chamber to hide my heater in?

It may slow down the flow thru the skimmer. Why don't you email AquaC, their customer service is excellent.

I copied my post and sent it to them last night. They've been helpful in the past.

Here's the (rapid) reply from Steve at AquaC:
"You can use the return chamber to hide the heater - you'll probably have to run the cord out of the exit window. Just make sure that the cord travels upward before it runs down the side of the tank, and I would use a drip loop as well (just to be safe). You don't want any water running down the cord and into the outlets! Thanks again, and let me know if you have any other questions!"

i've done that with mine and yes, you just have to make sure the cord goes up and out of the chamber. otherwise you'll get some what of a "syphon" out of the remora via the heater cord. i used a ebo-jager but the only thing is if you want to change the temp on the heater....it can be more than difficult (it can be difficult just to get the heater in the chamber). i could see it working really well with a heater that has the temp control on the wall plug (i.e. finnex, etc.).

I'm actually looking for a new heater. (I had a near disaster last weekend when mine decided that 90F would be an interesting temperature for my tank)
    Any recommendations?

it's only because i've bought a few and never had a problem with any of them (kind of why i suggested the product in my last reply), i would recommend a finnex heater. the heater itself could be submerged as deep as you wanted it to, whether within the tank or within the remora. the control for the heater is located at the power supply...check it out, hth.
