I'm sick of all the spillage I get when I have to change my filters as well as the lack of space when I need to access them. If I decided to move all the filters down below into the basement, what all would I need to consider for a pump besides the head/height?

They are lifegard filter modules. The pump goes to a filter module, then to a chemical module, a UV module, a heater module, and then back to the tank.

Also, would there be any advantage/disadvantage to using pvc for the long runs?

Run away from the LifeGuard Filter as fast as possible. That is what I started with and they were a pain. It seemed that as soon as I would clean the darn thing it would clog up. I finally disconected the stupid thing and it is now sitting in my shed.

I'm finding that too. I have to clean it once a week and only get so-so results. I've got too much invested in that setup to change it. I am thinking of either going with a second filter in parallel to keep the flow up, or using a whole-house filter instead. The whoule-house filters are cheap to replace, about $5.50 each.

Yep, I like that, nice and neat and out of the way.
