im getting ready to glue in my baffles in my new sump. theyre acrlic baffles going into a glass tank. i picked up silicone1just in case. but i also found GE brand "100% silicone sealant for plastic sheets and other plastics".... is this stuff reef safe? i suspect it will bond ok to glass and better then regular silicone to acrylic. anyone know?

I always hear GE silicon 1 is aquarium safe but personally I always use the DAP household silicon sealant that comes in the aqua squeeze tube. One is enough to do it. You can buy them at lowes.

One tube did approx 14 LF. What is your sump design and how many gallons will there be in the largest chamber?

I used GE 1 in the sump for my 90. Always used DAP 100% clear before that but couldn't find any this time.

I am curious how the GE silicon will do holding that much pressure with the bond between acrylic and glass. Even in smaller applications you can pull the baffles out by hand if you really chose to.

There is no bond between the acrylic and the glass.

The only true "bond" you will get will be between the silicone and the glass. The baffles are more "held in place" by the silicone than they are "bonded" by it. When your sump is up and running - a small leak between chambers is insignificant. Also, generally speaking when the sumps are full, the level of water in each of the chambers is roughly equal so there is little to no pressure on the baffles from the incoming water.

You should be fine with GE 1 and I do not even bother leak testing the sump as it was never designed to hold back all of the water in one chamber with an empty chamber next to it, and there is little to no adverse affect from small leaks inbetween chambers if you cannot get the silicone perfect.
