I have a Goby, which is the Barracuda with a different impeller, that was in the garage. My impression was that it would be loud for a living room, but then a garage has far different accoustics with hard floors, no drapes, etc.

What size tank is it for?

Its for a 210. It will be int the stand so it will have some sound dampening to it.

mount it on a rubber pad to minimize the vibrations.

How much are you getting it for? A Dart seems more appropriately sized considering you'll only have on the order of 6' of head pressure. The retail difference is about $100 and the Dart draws significantly less power, as in it would be meaningful enough to work into your cost analysis.

DAMN lone, you have a Reeflo in the living room! A bit on the large side no? You have a few options my friend.

Build an enclosure for it with ventilation.
Do what I did & build a fish room :D The only noise I have is the cool fan for my lighting.
    Switch to a different pump.

im getting it for 275 nib so i cant complain.i was going to get one of the bulk reef sound dampening pads for it.

id love a fish room and when i get my own place ill have one for ssure but im in my parents house so what ever i do/get has to be contained in the stand.they were kind enough to let me run an ro line and a fill line from the basement to the tank aswell as a drain line out the garage.

ventilated enclosure is a good idea though hmmm this may solve the problem if it arises.

just to clear thing up this is on a slab the basment ends before this room begins

You can get a Dart for about that. Granted, a Barracuda for that price is a great deal, but it's more than you need, will draw more power and will be louder.
