I want to make some ceramic shelves to stick on the background side of my tank with magnets to put some corals on. What is a chemically inhert and reef safe clay to use? I have a place in town that can fire it for me I just don't want to spend a fortune for some already made.

The most common type used is the epoxy stick type, but I don' t think it would be very cheap to use in large amounts.

You might be better off doing a sand / aggregate mix. I know I have seen some make them with quickrete. Look around for DIY rock for ideas.

I honestly have no clues about the ceramic. Not sure if there would be any chemicals in that to be worried about.

I dont know what the material is that they make bathroom or kitchen tiles with
but I know from the sponsors sites that many of them use these as frag plugs
(cut them into squares etc) thus if these people are using these for frag plugs they must be considered reef safe

so if you could find out what material is used for making those - then I reckon your good to go

I actually used a real rock. I took an extra piece of old live rock and sawed the back off of it and hollowed a spot out in the back of it for a mag float. I just need to glue the mag float in now. What is a reef safe epoxy I can use?

You could use superglue gel for this I believe mannursereefer
or you could use the 2 part reef puttys types, such as D&D fill the hole, push the magnets in and allow the putty to harden around it
