the elite is only worth it if you want to control a ton of things, or want all of the probes. one big thing to note right now is they dont have any salinity probes the orignal models had flaws so they are redesigning the whole probe, so who knows when it will be available.

also one trick to reduce the amount of outlets is using a splitter to run things on same schedule. for instance i have lunar and fuge light on one RK outlet, same with both T5 ballasts.

I agree with pja24, then if you need to upgarde down the road you send the one head unit it and get $50 back for it, so your getting the extra power bar and temp probe for $50.... (Wish I would of thought of that.. :()

Plus if you upgrade down the road you always have your exiting lite head unit as backup, of if you really get crazy and tun out of module space for the first one you can mount the second one and run more modules off it.......

    Just my 2 cents.

Love mine but have only had it for a week....

You send the RKL head back when you trade up for the $50 credit, you don't get to keep it.
To add a salinity probe you need the SL-2 module which will do pH, salinity and has two switched contacts like for an autotopoff or other switched contacts.
Bulk Reef usually has the RKL's, they go out of stock a lot but get them back in on a regular basis so its probably not much of a wait. You can also order directly from Digital Aquatics.

So there is no way I can just buy the level 3 and not have to upgrade anything right off the bat. Seems to me like a waste. Will they have models that come with the sl2 anytime?

The Level 3 or what they now call the Plus comes with an SL-1 and a pH probe with space for an ORP probe and the two contacts. They are not yet packaging the SL-2 with a combo. you would have to ask them if they plan to. The support forum on their website is great for questions and answers.

you also cannot get a salinity probe right now. they discontinued them because of a design flaw. their website says hey will be available January or February which is several months past. I called/posted on their forums asking when they would actually be available and they don't know they are having to redesign the probe.

Just order the RKL level one and add the sl2 and dc4 and ph probe to the mix and you get to the same place as ordering the level 3 package, add a salinity probe too if you want but the are not available yet....
