    Why does atticus' location say southern California if he/she's in Ohio that's where I was comming from and why I mentioned death vally and such.

    Trouble is I'm right between the major import places. We hit the importers and vendors almost every week (Travis and I) and have almost every major wholesaler for fish right here, with that I agree. But its 2 hours south to all the big stuff down there, and 1.5 hours north to the central coast reefers. I live 45 minutes outside LA, but with all the traffic, and new construction on our area of the 405 it could be a 3 hour trip. In our area, fish stores are disappearing, and people (hobbyist , not shops) are almost non existent. Both of the established reef clubs around us have just stopped completely as there isn't much interest.

    That's my trouble.

    I think you have me confused for someone else :p Live in Ventura County, CA

    Yeah...I commonly get you [Atticus] mixed up with another 3reefer, who actually lives in Akron. ::) Sorry about that. Your names are pretty similar.

    That's my problem here. I know of one other person in my town who has reef tank. Another person wants to start one, but doesn't have the funds.

    The closest fish store is 30 minutes away. It's a Pet Supplies Plus. Next closest is about an hour.

    That is a major bummer! Yeah we have tons of stores, but most are terrible death traps for the animals that end up there. The trouble is there is almost no one to actually buy the products the stores here offer, so it all just sits and rots, and with most of the companies not making any money, the incentive to do it right disappears.

    I can hit 4 stores, and 3 wholesalers within 25 minutes of me.

    Guys, Reef-A-Palooza is the highest attended marine aquarium event in the country. You could add 2nd and 3rd's highest attendance together and we still expect more. Once again our club expects a monsterous crowd, lots of fun, lots of excitement, and lots of action. If you can make it out, you won't be sorry! Anyone who was there last year can tell you that.

    Heh No one ever said getting around in LA was easy =P

    I live in woodland and I know one other reefer, a few whom keep marine and the rest are all fresh water. there's one hobbyist owned LFS and he kind of tailors to freshwater which makes sense, there's a pet extreme which is OK but their kind of like Petco, fish go in and only about half come out for sale. I takes me 30-45 to drive out to Sacramento depending on traffic just to get to O street, which i believe is the closest to me then the next is another 15-20 min drive. I can kind of relate to the whole there's no LFS around. IT appears that I'm just on the outside edge of things and those who live in Sacramento have a better stock to pick from.

    EDIT: I'm very tempted to go to Reef-a-Palooza and if I can get away I'll see some of you there!

    Matt Rogers is going to be there. I'll be there. Many 3reef sponsors will be there and hopefully many more 3reef members.

    You totally should! Been there the past couple of years and it never disappoints!

    Yeah, I remember. It's doing great. Absolutely huge now. How was the tank move?

    Oh cool. Yeah, I am hoping a bunch make it out this year. It's been great, all the vendors are super cool, and the Marine Depot booth was totally fun with the "wheel" prize thing.

    I forgot who asked this, but admission is like 10 bucks a person. You can check it out here;
