red thread like TINY worms

White/cobwebby strands are usually produced by vermetid snails. Thin, reddish/orange/brown stringy strands are usually spaghetti worms. Peanut worms are as described above. All are great detritivores and beneficial in a reef tank.

 

Ok, I'm going with spaghetti worms! Awesome! I didn't think anything was growing other than the fish! So....these guys won't hurt my fish? That is totatly cool! I did find a VERY small, (what looks like) feather duster in one of the holes in my rock. Could these things have come from the new Hermit crab I introduced about 2 months ago? Other than him, the only new stuff put in has been water. I got an ro/di for my house and I can't wait to see the changes it will make!(when I can get hubby to hook it up).

 

Right, they won't hurt your fish or anything in your tank. Feather dusters can come in on just about anything including sand, rock, hermit crab shells, etc.

 

oh hey! i have a question regarding worms that are similar to a peanut worm... i've got 2 that are very close together, then another one a few inches away... it seems as if they're planted in one spot, and come out only at night... they're white/transparent, and you can see a white spot coming out to the tip, then back in... and for their size (about the diameter of a toothpick), they can stretch out REALLY far... i watched mine for about an hour last night, with a mag lite with a red t-shirt stretched over it (to resemble "infrared")... the only thing that DID mind the light was my molly... it followed the light wherever it went...

Is this not the coolest thing you've ever seen? It's shot with a Nikon D50 18/55 lens with a Bower Macro V-37 ontop on the stock Nikon lens! I love it! The worm is just about 1/2 inch long.

 

i think it looks like a Hair worm from the Cirratulid species
