I just have to vent somewhere, and since my wife is already tired of hearing it, Here I am.
I have had the Redsea c-skim since Jan 30th. Although it was skimming fine, It did malfunction once where is blows water out of the air intake on the unit. I had figured it was just dirty. So I cleaned it 3x for it to work again.
Now, 3 weeks later, its doing it agian. I have also cleaned it 3x again and is still blowing water out of the air hole. By the way, it was not dirty or clogged. I have attempted to call redsea, but keep getting a voicemail stating they are having difficulties, and cannot leave a voicemail!!
I have an air pump hooked to the air intake hole for now for it to work, but Grrrrrrr!! I figured for 350 bucks, i would not have this issue. Thankfully, its in my sump, so no flooding on the floor. I will now send an e-mail to Redsea, and keep calling till I get a human. I'll let you know how it turns out.
I just needed to vent this as I have lost all patience with this thing!!! Grrrrr!!

Well. I walked into a flood last night :)

cleaned up. Thank God it's tile on the floor, so I mopped last night, woke up this morning, topped off the tank again (replace lost water) and about 10 mins after i notice water on the floor again. Looks like it was leakiing again, and I find that it's coming out the air hole. I'm not looking for help on the matter and found this thread. Looks like no one could give any advice on it.

I sent them an e-mail after finally gettin through to someone, they received it and were supposed to get back to me. But that was 2 weeks ago.
I cleaned the whole thing 2x more and it still did it. I kept an air pump hooked up to the air intake and was working. Testing it, I unhooked it 2 days later, and now its fine! GO figure. I keep this thing in my sump just in the case of what happened to you. If i ever receive anything from Red Sea, I will be sure to post it.

that is horrible. I have heard many people tell the same thing...it either works great or it floods.

I bought one the end of last year...the footing was too big to go where I wanted it...so glad I took it back!

This is nonsense. I got it off drfostersmith.com

I paid all this money expecting that I would have received quality product, but instead I'm getting more stress, damage, headaches.

I'm gonna see about sending this thing back. I don't want to deal with this nonsense.

The neck washing "feature" isn't even effective.

    Well!

I just got off the phone with fostersmith. They were very helpful about the whole thing. Waiting for an RMA to send it back. Prepaid fedex shipping as well. very decent of them.

Now I need to research a new skimmer. Cause I'm not doing this nonsense again.

Its not worth chancing. I'll tell you that much right now. Cause even if you have it sitting in a sump, the leak wont hurt you leak-wise. But it stops skimming when the leak is happening.

More of an air thing IMO

I dont know if this is what you all are talking about,,but,,

I find it nuts to hook up my overflow and try to have it suck air just later to find it is blowing water.. So i hooked it up to a powerhead at the intake side and not the normal outflow way..as far as my skimmer, I have a air stone in side the unit itself hooked to a air pump+i have the powerhead it came with sucking air too..

It pissed me off so much when hooking up my overflow...I couldn't find any reverse flow air pumps at all even the liftpump everyone uses doesn't say it sucks air! Glad it's over..

    Venting,
    Mike
