    I just got it & I'm confused on #8. Please Help :-/

    Directions for Use:
1.Clean the test tube by rinsing it with tap water. Clean the large (5 ml) syringe by rinsing it with the water to be tested.

2.Using the large (5 ml) syringe provided, place exactly 2 ml of the water to be tested into the test tube. Avoid drawing air bubbles into the syringe.

3.Add 5 drops of Magnesium Reagant A, shaking for 15 seconds after each drop.

4.Add 5 drops of Magnesium Reagent B and shake for 2 seconds.

5.Wait 1 minute; the color of the liquid should be pink as the start color on the color card and a precipitate will form on the bottom of the test tube.

6.Place the needle of the small (1 ml) syringe provided and draw exactly 1 ml of Magnesium Reagent C into the syringe. Avoid drawing air bubbles into the syringe, as this will affect the accuracy of the test. (Note: Reagent C is packed with a dropper inserted in the neck of the bottle to prevent leakage during shipping. You must remove this dropper before inserting the syringe in the bottle.)

7.Hold the syringe with Reagent C in one hand while holding the test tube in the other.

8.Add 0.4 ml of Reagent C to the test tube (i.e. by depressing the plunger to the 0.6 mark) while mixing gently, continue adding Reagent C one drop at a time. After each drop, mix for 2 seconds and compare the color of the liquid in the tube to the blue "end" color on the color card. Stop adding Reagent C when the end color appears in the test tube. Note: After a few minutes the liquid in the test tube will turn from blue to violet. This color change has no significance for the test.

9.Note the amount of Reagent C used.

10.Return any unused quantity of Reagent C to the bottle and rinse both syringes with tap water.

11.Clean the test tube thoroughly immediately after use. If left for a long period, a residue will form inside the tube that will affect the results of future tests. Should this occur, wash the test tube with a slightly acidic solution such as vinegar.

12.Use the table and/or formula below to calculate the magnesium concentration.

Magnesium Concentration (ppm) = Amount of Reagent C used (ml) X 2000

on number 8, depress it until it is to the .6 mark then after that keep adding a drop and mix until it turns blue. test is done read what is left in the dropper. Then take that amount and:

1.0 - amount left in dropper,
    x 2000.

yes you start with 1.0 in dropper then drop in .4 which will leave you at .6(in the dropper) where you start using one drop at a time.

accually just drop in until the stopper is at .6

When you draw regeant c into the syringe the bottom ring of the plunger should be in line with the 1.0 mark on the scale. Depress to .6with one hand while 'swirling' the test tube with the other hand. RedSea is a little vague on the directions and the diagrams are no help imo. Also you'll find that they can give false results because they are very prone to user error. I bought one to save a few bucks and I hate it. If it's possible I'd suggest saving some money and buying either Salifert or Elos.

theres a chart in the paper booklet instuction manual..

    say example:

    used .60 = mag 1200
    used .64 = mag 1300 etc.etc..

dont draw any air. usally I suck up the regent c from bottle and squirt it back into bottle (to get air bubbles/gaps out) and then place syringe tip about 1/16" from bottom of bottle and slowly draw fluid into syringe unit that round edge of the black rubber plunger is at 1.0 ml.. its a easy test once you figure it out..

you have to figuire the amount of c you used and then use the formula in your instruction pamphlet. I don't have the kit in front of me but I think you multiply by 2000
