I recently added red leg hermit crabs and some of them keep turning the margarita snails and black turbos on their backs leaving thme to die. I have to contantly monitor and turn them over but I can't get to all because the live rocks. It seems like I can't really do much. Before I added the hermits, I read that they are peaceful.

They are usually peacful. They do need to have shells to grow into though as they out grow their current shells. Often times they will prey on snails and what not to get their shells. If you have extra empty snail shells, put them in the tank, and it may help. If you do lose a couple of snails, leave the shells in there.

I put lots of empty shells but they still bother the slow moving snails.

When a snail dies, it reeks. Shouldn't I take it out so that it wouldn't foul the water?

How big is your tank ? If its a small tank I would take it out but if you have a larger tank , dont worry about it .

I have a 55g. When a snail dies, it's food for whatever wants it.

Leave it. This would be true for crabs too.

If a fish dies... I'll let the inhabitants munch on it for an hour or two after I notice (this only happened for me once) before I remove it. I even just give the dead fish to an anemone for a while too ;D
