Lol I'm not sure that the concern was harming the environment by tossing old saltwater.. If anything, the chaeto that I throw in the grass would love it if I dumped that old water on it. ;D

Again, why wouldn't you replace this barrel with a tank, and attach it to your DT as a fuge? If you attached it as a fuge, then you wouldn't have to go through the trouble of transferring the water! Why is everyone trying to over complicate their lives?

Additionally, I would assume that there are numerous other trace elements in the salt mix that have some purpose and would get depleted (at least there better be because thats what I am blindly paying for). I am not just talking about for corals either. For fish and the general composition of the water too.

Even further, what about the people that add chemicals to their tanks on a regular (or irregular) basis? The impurities and inactive ingredients (for lack of a better term) would eventually build up! This includes fish food too. We have no idea what they could be throwing in there..

Saltwater WILL nuke the grass and any plants you ever want to add in that area I PROMISE

I drained my old 90 gallon out into the back yard and in 8 years NOTHING has grown in that area, not grass not weeds not plants NOTHING...I would not suggest dumping saltwater anywhere you ever want anything to grow again

soft corals like zooanthids, leathers, mushrooms dont have a calcium skeleton so i dont think they do need calcium but i know they do need iodine

Actually that's not true. How do you think a toadstool stands up? It's not a skeleton per-say. I need to look up the actual name of it, but it's calcium based, and it's in most softies. I'm sure someone on here can back me up.

Actually, they upgraded. That's not the original design.

This statement is far from true. Every living organism requires calcium. Calcium plays many other roles in the cell besides calcification. For example, calcium is a cofactor for many enzymes, it plays a role in maintaining membrane potential, etc.

I installed one of those a few months back for a high end client and I was IMPRESSED and BLOWN AWAY to say the least, this tank literally had ALL the bells and whistles you can imagine and took us a solid 2 weeks to do the install, but since this was my first time actually getting to play with that Dialysea's unit I was amazed at what it could do for the tank

This guy dropped close to 80K for his tank setup, 500 gallon in wall with a 200 gallon custom sump huge bubble magus skimmer, reef controller 8 Radions and 12 T5HO bulbs "didnt need both but he wanted them" Dialysea's unit, Radion for his fuge "crazy I know" 4 red dragon pumps "2 as returns and 2 as a closed loop" 1400 Lbs premium live rock Calcium reactor, kalk reactor "Incase the ph needs a bump from the calcium reactor output possibly dropping the ph" skimmer neck cleaner like the swabbie

I will see if I can get the pics from the guy I set it up with cause this tank was seriously amazing, I want to go back to his house to check out the tank now that it's had some time to cycle and he has added fish and corals
