I used to get all my water from the Seattle Aquarium which has a great program of selling the same processed (UV treated) sea water that they use for their fish tanks to home aquarists.

@5 cents a gallon it is a real bargin. They give you a kind of credit card and you just pull up in back and fill up from a special hose.

Only drawback for me was cost of ferry fare there and back...plus I found the salinity varied pretty widely depending on if had been raining or not. So think it was from Pudget Sound and not ocean as advertised.

Still get once in a while if can combine with another big city trip.

My critters seem to like it just fine! 8)

Already mixed water looks to me like a reap off, you only get like 5g. for $9.00 on sale
when you can buy dry salt in a bag that can make like 50g or so. if you check the date in that water it's probably pretty old which ain't no big deal, but if I get like 46g. more less
for $3.00 to $5.00 there is no gain and a lot to lose, do the math your self! and about the purity of the water to use, you can get an ro/di for what you are spending on like 100g. of that water

ok if this stuff is 9 bucks for 5 gallons, for 50 gallons you are looking at 90 bucks. Now a bag of IO is going to run around 15 bucks and you can get a small ro unit for about 100. That's 115 dollars for the initial 50 gallons versus 90 bucks for the first 50 gallons. After the first 50 gallons you start losiing money in the deal.

If anybody wants some, Ill be in the gulf in some bluewater tomorrow. They got alot of water out there. The Only problem with that natural seawater is you dont know what your getting in that water (larvae and creatures) . AND If your near the mouth of a river, your getting all kinds of pollution right off the bat. PCB's, Metals, Fertilizer from all the runoff! Yup. Good stuff.
Thats what causes red tides and algae blooms. If you want seawater, then get it off a reef, other than that mix your own salt up.

lmao! I could of tell you the same thing when I live in PR, now I live in south west virginia...lol from 2500 3000ft above sea level... I guess if you live in a place far away from the beach you can't have salt water tanks is that your point?

If your talking about the Gulf of Mexico you must mean blackwater.

all the lfs's around here sell real ocean water but they get from far out and way deep, the water params are perfect across the board. (atlantic side of course)
