Buckets are my favoured method during this process, provided there are no chemicals or have not been any chemicals in the qt tank the fish where in?

if the water in the QT was safe, untreated water , then I would put the fish into the bucket with enough water to cover them

I would then set up airline with clamp from main tank to bucket and allow water to flow into bucket until volume has doubled
I would then pour half of the water from the bucket away
I would then allow bucket to double volume of water again from DT

and at this stage I would then net the fish and place them in the DT

that way none of the water from the QT ends up in the DT aside from a little bit that the fish has on its body or the net collects when moving the fish

ok so put all 11 fish in one bucket with corals too?

    qt tank params
    ph 7.8
    nitrate 5
    nitrite 0
    amm 0
    phos 0
    salinity 1.023

    dt params
    salinity 1.025
    phos 0
    ca 420
    ph 7.8
    amm 0
    nitrate 25

anyone know why my nitrates raised so much after tank switching. is it because I had to transfer the sand bed? will I have to start the cycle all over?

If the fish are small enough, 1 bucket is fine. They acclimate 10 to 20 1-2" fish at a time in buckets at my LFS.

You likely disturbed the anaerobic bacteria.
