According to the owner of Orphek (Take that how you want.) He was not an official distributor of Orphek. He was buying from a in country whole seller for his site. He was never offered any position at Orphek. An easy way to weed out the fakes with Orphek is that nobody in the states is authorized to speak on the behalf of Orphek other than Mr. Wilson. I believe he's on Central a lot.

I didn't say it before, but I'm going to say it now. I'm not stating any facts that I know to be true when it comes to what Orphek is doing. I just happen to talk to the owner quite a bit, and am relaying information that I hear from him.

The 09/17 Orphek press release states "We were made aware of his unauthorized buyorpheklights.com website over a month ago and requested him to take it down immediately"
Yet on 07/12 in their 3reef forum OrphekUSA refers to buyorpheklights.com as a distributor "not affiliated with us" as a source to purchase the T5/T8 LED tubes.
Mr. Wilson claims the buyorphek site was unauthorized, yet OrphekUSA refers customers to it. Was Orphek really unaware that Mr. Maddox had been behind buyorphek, or did they shut him down due to his actions that caused negative reaction in the marketplace?
I had actually talked to Douglas at buyorphek and he led me to believe that he was in direct communication with Orphek regarding product availability. When I was ready to obtain some Orphek products, buyorphek had unexpectedly dropped out of all communications and their website redirected to orphek.com
This entire matter raises concern about Orphek having 100% integrity, which questions the truthfulness of advertisements & statements they have made about their products. As others have said, this doubt will not go away until their products are tested by a qualified & neutral 3rd party and/or proven themselves through prolonged use over successful reef tanks. I was not at MACNA to hear Sanjay's presentation, nor have I seen any published test results beyond those in Orphek's product advertisements.

Well, technically 7/12 is over 2 months before 9/17. They said over a month, not over 2 months.

However, they apparently have directed others to the site, at least on this forum. Perhaps whoever was posting for Orphek wasn't aware who the approved distributors were?

"We're still working on fitting an LED driver that fits our quality standards into a T-5 tube. For now, we're just offering the slimline fixtures. Mad4tanks.com and buyorpheklights.com has them in stock, I believe!"

I've met Jake and talked to him about LEDs, and I think that Orphek in general had it coming from him.
I received some news from a credible source (which I will keep anonymous to avoid bashing) that the Orphek dense matrix type light was actually an OEM emitter used in warehouses with some blue added. While I cannot personally verify this information, I will ask the source for proof to see whether this may actually be true.

I would believe it 100%. I've been saying all along that there's no way a small company like orphek could design their own emitter from scratch. There's no question orphek is a shady company with some hot heads in charge of blowing up reef forums with advertisment. I will never buy their product. And I would venture to say that we never see succesful reef tanks long term under orphek lighting. If that day ever comes I will gladly retract my statement, but I'm betting I won't have to.

When there are facts that conflict, I am interested in an explanation. It seems a bit unfair bring up hearsay though. Also, I'm not sure it's really relevant where companies get their parts from anyways. What's more important is if they do what they claim. That's just my .02 though.

I would love to help clear it up for you. You seem to be in relatively good contact with Orphek. Maybe you or mikejrice can answer these questions.

Who is the head at Orphek (name)
Who is the head at OrphekUSA (name)
Who is the head of Orphek in North America (name)
