The live rock grow on it? As long as there is no metal on it it should be fine and you can decorate how you want.

some sort of algae will grow on the ship...just in case the rock itself does not grow its the organisms on it that make it "live"

It will be safe, however coraline will completely take it over and you'll only be left with the shape

    lots of us do

Live rock is reef-building corals held together by coralline algae.....plus a thousand years.

(It's the thousand of years thing that messes with us). ;D

Oh boy... we should pass down reef systems to our future generations and hope that they grow into fine specimen... and keep a photo journal so that future reefers a thousand years ahead could see the progress;)

I know... How dumb of me to post... Just a thought lol::)

Actually, I plan on passing my whole system to one of my kids when I move out of this house (retirement years.....at least 20 from now). Then I start a whole new system. I don't think it's dumb at all. Hardware changes, water changes, fish die and are replaced, but the rock just keeeeeeeps on sitting there doing it's thang.
