    i think ur still gonna cycle...new sand will cycle...

    I added new sand and very mature rock to my 14g and there was no visible cycle in the tank with test and no algae outbreaks..But who knows.

    New sand with existing mature rock will be fine provided the rock can keep up with the bioload. Over time the sand will get its own bacterial colony going, but will neither help nor hinder the initial transfer.
