I purchased a haitian reef and a hawiian red anemone a little while back and put them in the qt for a couple weeks (20 gallon with 4 24inch HO T5's 2 10,000K and 2 actinics) and all was well. Four days ago i intoduced them to my tank placing them both in a hole i prepared (being completely optimistic they would stay). That night, the hawiian accepted his location and the haitian moved under the rock i placed him on and hasnt come out yet. 2 questions. 1. Is it possible that my 20,000 radium bulbs are too bright for the anemone? 2. Is it in danger not being in direct light? I know moving him could cause damage to the "foot". He is accepting food still. What do i do?

thanks. this morning, i noticed it has moved slightly from where it was, but still under one of the ledges. How long can it survive like that? The tenticles look fine and he actually still has good color. Im new to this but this goes against everthing i thought i knew about anemones. heres a pic to help out some. I know i have lots of brown and green algea on my rocks bit its loosing ground every day to coraline algea. Its the bottom middle in first pic and lower right hand side of the second pic. In the first pic you can see a couple of tenticles coming thru the rocks to reach the light. again thanks

Haitians like going in and out of rocks. They do that. sometimes they will find a spot the will call their own and stay for 6 mos then one day they up and leave that piece of real estate for "greener pastures", it's up to them, not us. if either of them ever gets slimy, rolls around, the bases detach from the rock and they roll around for more than a week without reattaching, or look like they're falling apart or you can smell them in your tank, when you put your nose above and sniff, then it's time for them to go. take them and throw them out.

Mine did the same thing. It went under a rock, and has move in and out a few times, but is still accepting food, and seems happy. I'd just leave him be.
