So I know this seems pretty basic, but I am in the process of setting up my tank and want a new heater. In looking around, there seems to be a quite a variety of brands and price points. Any advice on choosing a heater or brands you guys like?

Yeah, this will actually be the 2nd heater for the tank. The tank used to be my dad's and he has a 300w heater for it (125g tank) and I wanted to get another 300w to go with it. Can't match up the brand as it is older and not sure what kind it is.

These heaters are fantastic! I was using a 200w for one of my tanks in the past! These keep the water temp right where you set it at. And they last a LONG time! Well built! Had mine for years and never once had any problem with it! I highly suggest this kind of heater! good Luck!

I have the new Fluval E series. Like ithas a nice temp display and keeps the temp within 1.5 degrees of whatever I set it at. I have it set at 79 and the tank usually varies between 78-79.5 but I only run 1 heater. Only complaint is it seems to take a long time to heat up water that is already cold> I had water sitting for a WC that cooled to 60degrees abd it took forever to bring it back up to temp.
