i have just started up a 300 gallon wet/dry filter for a 150 gallon tank, and it has 2 return filter media boxes,i have more water coming out of the media boxes coming out the sides then out of the bottom, its splashing over into the sump,it started after i added my salt,i am using the sponge filter media that came with the wet dry filter,is this normal or should i go with a thinner filter media or any other recommendations, and also we just added 120 pounds of sand but it started when we added the salt. thanks

Take the pre-filter media out or turn off pumps until every thing settles down--I you added the salt directly to the tank it may have clogged the filter before it dissolved. But when you put in sand with the filter running you will definately clog the pre-filter. Which way are you going to go with this tank? Reef-Fish Only etc???

reef and fish, thank you for your help....I cleaned the pre-filter earlier but still have some overflow into the sump out of the side of the media box through the horizonal cut-out in the side leading into the sump....is this normal and is there something i can do to reduce this....I am getting some splash into the sump and smoe splash out on to the inside of the stand and cabinet door....any further suggestions or idea would be great.

I think the tubes that feed the box need to be at least an inch away from filter media . Not pushed all the way in but secure . Hope this helps .
EDIT: Dont know what I was thinking when reading . I was thinking about a skimmer and not a filter media box . Sorry about that .

IF its overflowing the trickle plate you must have more flow than it can handle if you put a shut off coming out of the tank slow the flow down to the filter with that also that will keep a little water in the over flow hope that helped.
