I set up only when I know i'm going to add something. I store a 10 gal. tank cleaned and ready for use in my garage along with a AquaClear power filter. I keep the sponge for the filter in my D/T sump when the quarantine tank is not in use and simply place the sponge in the filter when I set up the quarantine tank. If I do have to medicate the quarantine tank. I dispose of the sponge after use and simply put a new sponge in my sump until the next set up. I also place a Maxi-jet in the quarantine tank, although it is not necessary along with a few pieces of PVC for the fish, if that is what I'm quarantining at the time.

Yep. My 20g is currently my qt tank and it's been running non-stop now for over a decade as the qt tank. I haven't had a disease outbreak since going to a qt tank.

Just to add to what I said yesterday about inverts: I do quarantine shrimp and hermit crabs, but not snails. The shrimp (Cleaner shrimp otherwise known as Red Skunk) and Hermits I feed OSI Spirulina flake food to so they don't starve to death, and they love it. Since I don't know how/what to feed the Cerith snails and Limpets (when I had them) I just put them in without quarantining, otherwise they would starve to death in 4 weeks. Yes I know they eat nuisance algae, but since it's really hard to get what little I have off of the rocks and glass, I don't see any way to feasibly sustain them. SO, no quarantining for them.
