I used it for at least 6 months with no results. This is when I was only checking for nitrates and pH and salinity. I realized using Purple-up requires more than just pouring and expecting coralline algae to grow. Like Magnus mentioned, you should make sure your Alk, Ca, Mg and PO4 are at there respected levels. Once all parameters are optimized you can pour a cap full of Purple-up, if that. It is like seeding and you will need to have coralline algae already in there. Make sure to use RO/DI water so you don't have any contaminates messing up your concoction. Purple-up only speeds up the process and doesn't provide coralline to the aquarium.

I used it and have 3 sides covered with corline. Scrap it off front weekly. Check calcium and mag before wc then after. Better yet check your that you mix. I didnt know to check it before and my calcium and mag was low all the time. I started adding calicum and mag to IORC to get them up in new water before i did wc.

IMPO you dont need it. If all your paramaters are right all you need is a seed of it and it will take off. keep your money and just be patient. You will eventually look back and wish you had never gotten it...LOL.

This is one product that I don't care for one bit. Newbies are the primary purchaser of this product and they are working on things like not overfeeding and understanding the Nitrogen cycle. The last thing they need is to have Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium messed up. Caribsea had two losing products on their shelves (Aragamilk and Aragamight). Randy Holmes-Farley even wrote an article on how adding Aragamight to your tank can actually REDUCE ones Calcium, alkalinity, and Magnesium. Chemistry and the Aquarium

Caribsea is a marketing genius. They took two products that weren't selling, combined them, put them in a purple bottle, and called it Purple Up Coralline Accelerator. This was misleading to newbies who bought it thinking they would get coralline algae from it. (In fact, the bottles now say that it doesn't include coralline algae in tiny letters). It's not a bad product.....it's a product that can easily be misused by someone that doesn't understand it.

The average hobbyist does 1 water test a week. I do tons of water tests each and every day. I can't tell you how many people have their parameters out of whack that are using Purple Up. (Obviously, people can also misuse more basic Calcium, and Alk, and Magnesium supplements too but this happens less often).

I recommend testing each element and maintaining each element separately. The Internet side of the business sells tons of Purple Up every week. On the other hand, in the store where customers are actually talking to an employee, it's never sold because all of the employees prefer to sell only the supplement for the element that is low.

I used brightwells powder reef builder. And thst stuff was awesome. Don't use their two part liquid though. The powder is the way to go. I spread all over in a matter of months and it didn't stew my levels up

I used purple up since day 1 when I convert my FW to FOWLR, I bought few rocks covered with coralline, but I did not get any results cuz I never test my Mg and Ca. I used 5in1 test strips which is crap and you can only see NO2 and NO3. Then We decided to do 20% weekly water change with NSW from Ocean without dosing anything at all. After 4 weeks finally coralline start to appear on my powerhead! I was so exited :) now I have 25 LPS frags and I'm getting Lime and making DIY doser.
