    Do you have any coralline algae?

    Putting Purple Up into your tank hoping for coralline algae is like a farmer putting down fertilizer without putting seeds in first.

    Nope, in order for Purple Up to work, you need to have at least a tiny spec of coraline in there, whether it's on a rock or on a power head.
    I would stay away from it though, I had a very bad experience with this product. I know some people had success with it, but they were checking their Magnesium levels like ReefBruh wisely suggested.

    My problem was that I kept adding because my calcium was never at 450, but the real problem was, that all that purple up, put my alkalinity through the roof, since my magnesium was too low to support all that added calcium. You need 3 ions of magnesium to support 1 ion of calium. So.... it was never going to happen.

    If you're serious about corals and their growth, you will need the following test kits:

    pH, Alkalinity, calcium, magnesium and phosphate. Other like Iodine, stronium etc can come later. But Alk, Ca and Mg are your core values.

    purple up is nothing but iodine. not saying it isnt good but you will be OD'ing your tank. I used it for 6 months with no results. I started doing magnesium and i got more coraline in 2 months than i did in 8 months. What kind of salt are you using. Are you making it or getting it from your LFS?

    I used it for 2 months with absolutely no results, and I had acquired some rock with coraline on it so I had some present in my tank already. I quit using it and just did weekly WCs and my coraline was taken off. I have it everywhere now. I have to scrape it off my glass.

    NOW YOU DID IT!! You won't believe how passionate the debate about that stuff is. There are those who swear by it and those who will tell you not to use it. There isn't anything wrong with it. The addition of Aragonite is a plus along with the other elements.
    Here is a little write-up;
    "Pet Product News Editor`s Choice Awards Winner as One of the Best New Products of 2005Purple Up has a unique dual method approach to coralline algae acceleration: Ionic calcium-Immediately raises dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water. Ten micron aragonite-targets the live rock surface, where it dissolves in situ (in place), delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium and carbonate right where it is needed."

    I have used it and good success with it. I would use it as an adjunct to a regular calcium suppliment adding it a couple time a week.
