    Stupid question of the day....

I dose with purple up every other day,but I wanted more color on my rocks. Should/can I up my dosage to everyday or is there a better way to get color? My levels are right at 400cal didn't want to hurt anything in my tank by raising the dose.

I heard purple up doesn't really do much. If you keep calcium, magnesium, etc where they should be then coraline will eventually grow on its own.

I used purple up for a little bit one day I just decided that I wanted to use liquid reactor it is the same tip of liquid that a calcium reactor makes and I had coralline growth like mad

If ur not testing ur calcium levels every other day when u add purple up i wouldnt be adding it at all purple up can cause u to have too much calcium . Also get ur nutriuents down so u can favor the growth of coraline , i would diffidently test for any thing im adding to my tank

Only concern I see is Iodine. You should test for it if using Purple up because it contains Iodine. Now, just how much it will affect your tank would be determined by what you have in the tank to use Iodine. I dose Iodine and one method on the bottle says the preferred method is to add 8 drops a day, which you may fall into dosing Purple Up.

This tank, I dosed exclusively for about 2-3 weeks and you can see the Purple! I then went back to regular Calc.

iodine have always been the least of my problems , as it is removed from the water quite easy be means of protein skimmer and soft coral .also u dont seem to see ur calcium raising from dosing purple up . becuase it will creep up and boom

Coraline grows in a tank with low nitrates and phosphates. As long as magnesium and calcium are at normal levels it will grow. It does NOT matter if you pay more for the mag and calcium in a bottle with a clever marketing name. Go to bulk reef supply for good deals. Purple up does what it claims but is a rip off preying on newbs.

    Skimmer Drawbacks

    * Can be very to extremely expensive
    * They can remove beneficial bacteria as well as phytoplankton and other desirable organisms from a system.
    * They can remove trace elements that may need to be replenished or supplemented, such as Iodine. Other elements are most likely removed as well and if partial water changes are not practiced on a regular basis your system could become unbalanced chemically, i.e. not have the proper proportion or ratio of trace elements to major elements. Regular partial water changes with properly mixed saltwater will prevent this from happening
