Wow, just re-read my post. Things not to do during the middle of the night when you cant sleep. self -K on the spelling.

No, keeping a mantis isnt really that hard, it just requires some preperation. If you can keep a reef tank you can keep a mantis no problems (imo). While they are a different style of invert basic invert rules still apply, with the biggest being they arent a fan of nitrates. Keep them down & your fine. I'm not saying you need a SPS water quality level tank. Like said if you can keep corals you have the knowledge to keep a mantis. I have my mantis is a almost macro style tank, lots of macro's and a few fish. Yes, you can keep smasher style mantis with fish possibly. I say possibly because the mentality of the shrimp vary between individuals. Some are total killers while others are more accomodating. My peacock even lets my flame angel swim in one side & out the other of its lair.

A big concern when keeping a mantis in 'shell rot'. Without getting very long and drawn out think of it as mantis shrimp ich. While the sources can be debated, the bottom line is it is a long and hard road for a mantis to recover from.

Outside of that I think I have covered most of the basics in my previous post.

Generally I wouldn't worry about the tank size unless you are going to be taunting the mantis to actually strike the glass. Then it's your fault if it breaks :p Also, Like Khowst said most damage they do to cause tank problems is generally on the seals. Other than that Khowst covered everything major.
